MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — The community and those close to him are grieving the heartbreaking death of Phillip Longino Jr., 16, from Cleveland, who was shot and killed at a restaurant in Mayfield Heights on Sunday evening.
As reported by the Mayfield Heights Police Department, officers arrived around 9:57 p.m. following reports of gunfire at Raising Cane’s, situated at 5880 Mayfield Road. When they reached the scene, they discovered Phillip Longino Jr. suffering from a suspected gunshot wound near the restaurant’s front entrance. He was taken to Hillcrest Hospital by ambulance, where medical staff declared him dead.
Officials stated that the gunfire came after a physical confrontation among several minors inside the restaurant. A 14-year-old male from South Euclid has been apprehended in connection with the event. Furthermore, an 18-year-old male from Cleveland is currently being held as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is collaborating with the Mayfield Heights Police Department as they work to clarify the events surrounding the shooting, including the affiliations of those involved. No additional information has been provided at this moment.
