Rye Resident Loses Life in Tragic I-95 Accident in Greenwich

 GREENWICH, Conn. — The local community is grieving the passing of Jill Newmark Haskel, 89, from Rye, who sadly lost her life Monday afternoon in a three-car accident on Interstate 95 in Greenwich.



The accident took place at approximately 4:45 p.m. on December 22, 2025, close to the Exit 3 on-ramp from Field Point Road. Initial reports from the Connecticut State Police suggest that Haskel's automobile collided with two other vehicles, leading to severe injuries. She was taken to Greenwich Hospital, where she was later declared dead.

The other drivers involved, Michael Mattelson from Purdys, NY, and Anne Stark Locher from Greenwich, were not harmed.

Officials stated that all cars involved experienced considerable damage, prompting a temporary closure of the roadway while emergency personnel responded to the incident.

Haskel's death has brought profound sadness to her family, friends, and the wider community. Her family has asked for privacy as they cope with this unexpected and devastating loss.
