Sarah Johnson Obituary Death Announcement: Ex-Mayor of Norway Passes Away in Residential Blaze at Age 70

 The community of Norway is grieving the immense loss of Sarah Johnson, 70, a former mayor and cherished local figure, who passed away Saturday morning as a rapidly spreading fire consumed her residence.



The blaze ignited shortly before 7:00 a.m. at a wooden home located on Harrison Avenue, leading to a significant emergency response after indications suggested a potential victim was trapped inside.

Numerous fire departments from across Orangeburg County arrived on the scene as intense flames and dense smoke engulfed the building. Firefighters urgently searched the burning structure.

Johnson was discovered inside the home and was subsequently declared deceased due to injuries incurred in the fire, as stated by Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle. One firefighter sustained injuries during the operation and received treatment at a nearby hospital before being discharged.

Johnson held the position of mayor in Norway from 2013 to 2019, gaining recognition as a caring leader who was profoundly committed to the welfare of her community. Many residents remember her as a person who led with kindness, empathy, and steadfast commitment.
