Stockton Birthday Celebration Shooting Results in the Death of 14-Year-Old Amari Peterson as Family Asks for Explanations

 STOCKTON, Calif. — The relatives of 14-year-old Amari Peterson are attempting to comprehend the mass shooting that took his life during a birthday party in Stockton, California.

His father, Patrick Peterson, expressed that the gathering was intended to celebrate a two-year-old’s birthday, not to transform into a tribute for his son just two days later.

Peterson recalls the moment Amari entered the world, referring to him as “the ideal gift from God.” Now, he is faced with memories of the last moments he shared with his child.

“All I can picture is my son on the ground while I am trying to revive him,” Peterson remarked.

Amari succumbed to injuries sustained from a gunshot wound above his heart, according to Peterson. He and his family were among the many attendees inside the venue Saturday when gunfire broke out. Four individuals lost their lives and 11 more were injured.

“I just heard the shots, and then the shooter came in,” Peterson stated. “I turned around, looked at him, and I started to see him shooting repeatedly.”

Peterson mentioned that his daughter was clipped during the pandemonium. He attempted to reach Amari as people fled in all directions.

“Everyone was running away while my son was just there crawling, trying to get up,” he said. “I was performing CPR on him, and he was bleeding from his face. It’s something a father should never have to endure.”

He stated that the traumatic scene replays in his thoughts every time he attempts to rest.

“I find myself lying over my son while he’s there struggling to breathe… trying to breathe…” he shared. “Every day he told me, ‘Dad, I love you. Dad, I appreciate you.’ That boy expressed his love for me every morning and every night.”

Peterson portrays his son as a “kind spirit,” cherished by many and enthusiastic about sports.

“He was a fan of sports, especially football and basketball,” Peterson mentioned. “He participated in track a bit, but essentially, he was a kind spirit.”

He admitted that he still cannot grasp the reasons behind this tragic event. The motive for the shooting has yet to be disclosed, and investigators indicate they are continuing to pursue the case.
