AUSTIN—An early morning shooting in north Austin resulted in the death of a Caldwell County Precinct 3 constable, as confirmed by officials.
The Caldwell County Constable's Office stated that the deputy was performing a security duty off-duty at a location in Austin when he was involved in the shooting. Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, the deputy did not survive his injuries after being rushed to a medical facility.
The deceased constable has been named as Aaron Armstrong, who had been part of the Caldwell County Constable's Office since October 2024.
According to the Austin Police Department, the incident took place close to the intersection of North Lamar Boulevard and West Rundberg Lane. Authorities reported receiving a call around 2:10 a.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Armstrong in a parking area with severe injuries. Investigators suspect that he was shot by a suspect who remains unknown at this time.
On Sunday afternoon, around 4 p.m., Austin police announced the apprehension of a suspect, aided by the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Task Force, along with support from APD Air Support, K9 units, and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The detectives are actively pursuing the investigation of this case and are requesting that anyone present at Club Rodeo during the shooting reach out, especially individuals who may have witnessed the event or possess pertinent information.
Austin Police are anticipated to conduct a news briefing on Monday afternoon to share further insights.
