Dylan Worthington Incident, Hamilton, North Island, New Zealand Demise, 19-year-old HBHS Graduating Class of 2023

The Hamilton community is grieving the unexpected passing of 19-year-old Dylan Worthington, a dear alumnus of Hamilton Boys’ High School (HBHS), who died suddenly on December 31, 2025. The news of Dylan’s death has sent shockwaves through his family, friends, and classmates, who are trying to cope with the loss of such a lively and kind young individual.

Dylan was the cherished son of Joanne and Glenn Worthington and the younger sibling of Blake. People who knew him described him as empathetic, considerate, and always eager to lend a hand to others. Dylan had a promising future ahead of him. He was an invaluable member of his family and had a vast network of friends who will deeply feel his absence. His tragic passing has created an emotional void in the lives of those who knew him, and his family is understandably heartbroken by the tragedy.

Having recently graduated from HBHS in 2023, Dylan's life was just beginning, yet he had already left a significant mark on everyone around him. Renowned for his friendly demeanor, humor, and optimistic view of life, he was a young man who exuded kindness and easily made friends. Dylan was always quick to assist others and possessed a natural talent for forming connections with people.

On the morning of December 31, Dylan was involved in a tragic accident in Hamilton that resulted in his death. The details regarding the accident have not been completely disclosed, but his family has communicated their astonishment and sorrow over the sudden loss of their son and brother. They have asked for privacy during this trying time as they process their immense grief.

To honor Dylan’s memory, his family has established a Givealittle page to help alleviate the financial strain on them as they navigate this difficult period. Instead of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to this page, allowing friends and loved ones to assist the Worthingtons in preparing for Dylan’s memorial.

Messages of sympathy and encouragement for the family can be directed to the Worthington family via Grinter’s Funeral Home at 3 Hallys Lane, Cambridge 3434, or through Dylan’s online memorial book, where friends and family can convey their thoughts and reminiscences.

A service celebrating Dylan’s life is scheduled to take place at Raleigh Street Christian Centre in Leamington, Cambridge, on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 11:00 am. After the service, Dylan will be interred at Hamilton Park Cemetery, where family and friends will come together to bid their final farewells to a young man whose life, though short, made a significant impact on many.

The passing of Dylan Worthington serves as a heartbreaking reminder of life’s fragility. His family and friends are left to process the shock of his departure, but they will continually remember him for his kindness, generosity, and the love he offered to those around him. Dylan’s essence will endure in the memories of all who were lucky enough to have known him.

While the community grapples with this devastating loss, the Worthington family is immensely thankful for the overwhelming support they have encountered from their friends and the broader Hamilton community.
