Jacob Ransom Toledo Ohio Obituary Passing, Cherished Community Member Departed Suddenly

 Jacob Nicholas Ransom, aged 29, from Toledo, Ohio, died on December 31, 2025. He was born on February 22, 1996, to Debra (Ransom-Grindle) Thanasiu and Christopher Ransom.



Jacob completed his education at Saint John Jesuit High School and chose to embark on a career in skilled labor, ultimately becoming a Journeyman Pipefitter at Pipefitters Local 50. His commitment and strong work ethic led him to the position of Lead Superintendent at the Lima Refinery through Graham Industrial Services. Jacob was greatly admired for his professionalism, leadership abilities, and unwavering dedication to his job.

Recognized for his charm and vibrant personality, Jacob was endearingly nicknamed the “Gentle Giant,” “Big Sexy,” or simply “Ransom” by his close friends. He possessed an extraordinary talent for forging connections and made acquaintances wherever he went.

Jacob had a profound passion for golf and skiing, frequently traveling with friends to create everlasting memories. He had a trip scheduled to Tahoe, reflecting his adventurous nature and zest for life. Sports played a significant role in Jacob's youth—he was part of CYO basketball with Our Lady of Perpetual Help and continued to participate in Thanksgiving tournaments as an adult. Additionally, he dedicated time to lacrosse during his high school tenure.

Most importantly, Jacob was beloved for his generosity and kind spirit. He consistently offered assistance to others and showed deep compassion to those facing challenges. Despite encountering difficulties with alcohol, Jacob faced recovery with honesty and bravery. Throughout his journey in rehabilitation, he focused on his own growth while also guiding and uplifting younger individuals, forming significant connections in the recovery sphere. His family expresses sincere appreciation to Midwest Rehab Facility for their kindness and assistance over the years.

He is survived by his devoted mother, Debra Thanasiu of Toledo, Ohio; stepfather, Kim Thanasiu; siblings, Nicholas Thanasiu, Nancy Ransom, and Abby Thanasiu; grandfather, Albert Grindle; and his beloved fiancé, Claire Denecker, whom he adored wholeheartedly. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, including Uncle Bill and Aunt Laura Grindle, cousins Petra and Ella Grindle; Aunt Jenny and Uncle Joel Maguire, cousins Mitchell and Macey Maguire; and his close cousin Hailey Thanasiu.

Visitors are welcome to Coyle Funeral Home, located at 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Monday, January 12, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Tuesday, January 13, at 10:00 a.m. The interment will be private.

In place of flowers, contributions can be made in Jacob’s honor to The Open Door.
