A tragic accident in Hornsby has left the community in mourning after a 33-year-old woman who was pregnant, along with her unborn child, lost their lives on Friday evening. The crash occurred near the entrance of a parking lot on George Street in the northwest of Sydney and has led to serious charges against 19-year-old Aaron Papazoglu, who authorities claim was driving a BMW involved in the incident.
Shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday, 14 November 2025, emergency services received calls about a pedestrian being hit in what officials describe as a multi-vehicle accident. According to NSW Police, the BMW supposedly collided with the rear of a Kia Carnival, propelling the Kia forward and fatally striking the woman, who was walking alongside her husband and their three-year-old child.
Paramedics from NSW Ambulance arrived quickly and provided care to the eight-month-pregnant woman before taking her to Westmead Hospital in critical condition. Despite the extensive efforts made by medical professionals, both she and her unborn child died shortly thereafter.
The drivers of the BMW and the Kia, the latter being a 48-year-old man, were not injured. Both individuals were subjected to required testing in accordance with standard protocols. At the time of the crash, no additional passengers were present in either vehicle.
Officers from the Ku-Ring-Gai Police Area Command promptly established a crime scene, with the Crash Investigation Unit carrying out a thorough forensic assessment throughout the night.
Around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday (15 November 2025), police apprehended Aaron Papazoglu at a house on Millewa Avenue in Wahroonga. He was taken to Hornsby Police Station, where he faces several serious charges, which include:
Dangerous driving occasioning death – drive in a dangerous manner
Negligent driving occasioning death
Cause loss of fetus—death of a pregnant woman
It has been noted by authorities that Papazoglu possesses a provisional driving license. Police indicate that if he is found guilty, he could face a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
Papazoglu has been denied bail and is set to appear in Parramatta Local Court today.
The woman’s husband and young son, who unfortunately witnessed the tragic event, were not injured physically but received immediate support for shock at the scene.
