RICHMOND, Va. — The community of Richmond is in sorrow over the unfortunate passing of 21-year-old Alexander Norton from North Chesterfield, who died in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday afternoon at South Belvidere Street.
The Richmond Police Department Crash Team reported that officers were dispatched to the crossroads of South Belvidere and Spring Streets at around 3:59 p.m. to respond to an accident involving a motorcycle and an SUV. Upon the arrival of emergency responders, they discovered Norton in critical condition. He was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, where he later passed away due to his injuries.
According to the investigation, Norton was proceeding on Spring Street when he allegedly ignored a red traffic light while trying to make a left turn onto South Belvidere Street. Simultaneously, an SUV traveling south was entering the same intersection, also making a left turn. The collision between the two vehicles was severe.
The SUV's driver, a male adult, stayed at the accident site and fully assisted the investigators. He did not sustain any injuries. Currently, no actions have been taken against him, and the crash is still being looked into by the RPD Crash Team.
Friends and family are heartbroken over the unexpected loss of Alexander, cherishing his memory as a vibrant and caring individual who had a passion for adventure. Those acquainted with him describe him as energetic, always cheerful, and readily available to lend a hand to anyone in need. His enthusiasm for motorcycles exemplified his adventurous spirit and desire to live life to its fullest.
"Alex was such a generous soul," a friend mentioned. "He was the type of individual who would pause everything to assist you. The way we lost him is simply beyond comprehension."
