 GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. — The community is filled with sorrow after a devastating accident occurred early Saturday morning on Route 288 at the James River Bridge, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Edgar Ruiz Carrillo from Midlothian.




Virginia State Police reported that the situation unfolded just after midnight when a car hit a barrier while traveling south on Route 288. Emergency crews from Goochland County and Powhatan Fire & Rescue arrived on the scene, employing a fire truck with its lights flashing to secure the left travel lane and safeguard the area of the accident.

While they were responding, another vehicle, operated by Edgar Ruiz Carrillo, crashed into the back of the Goochland fire truck. Even though he had his seatbelt fastened, Edgar suffered deadly injuries from the impact. The fire truck incurred considerable damage and has been taken out of service. Fortunately, there were no injuries among the firefighters present.
