Fort Payne authorities are looking into a case of double murder; a suspect has been taken into custody in Oxford.

 FORT PAYNE, Ala. — A heartbreaking incident involving two gunshot victims occurred within the Fort Payne Housing Authority Complex, resulting in the deaths of two young individuals on the evening of November 9, 2025.




At around 5:59 p.m., the Fort Payne Police received an emergency call reporting gunfire in the 1300 block of Alabama Avenue NW. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found two individuals inside an apartment's kitchen, both with clear gunshot injuries.

Even with the immediate response from the police and the subsequent arrival of medical emergency teams, 27-year-old Alisha Nichole Keller and 24-year-old Logan Cordale Brown, residents of Fort Payne, were declared dead at the location.

Through a swift initial investigation, authorities named 27-year-old Jacob Eugene Mitchum from Oxford, Alabama, as the shooter. Reports suggested that Mitchum was heading back towards Oxford. Working together with the Oxford Police Department, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, and the East Metro Area Crime Center (EMACC), law enforcement successfully located and apprehended Mitchum without any complications.

Mitchum was returned to Fort Payne, where he faced formal charges of Capital Murder and was placed in custody without bail. He has since been relocated to the DeKalb County Detention Center.

The Fort Payne Police expressed their appreciation for the cooperation and quick efforts of the other agencies involved. The department also made it clear that there were no children present at the location during the incident, and previously, no threats or alerts had been reported to them regarding this matter.

Officials reiterated their dedication to addressing domestic violence issues:

"Domestic violence is a significant offense that impacts families and entire neighborhoods. Our officers receive training to respond promptly, investigate thoroughly, and assist victims in connecting to essential local services for their safety and assistance."
