CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. — A sense of profound sorrow has enveloped the Chatham County community following the tragic shooting death of D’Angelo “Akon” Shaw, a cherished veteran and prominent figure associated with Little Lucky’s Bar, just hours after the commemoration of Veterans Day concluded.

According to the Chatham County Police Department, law enforcement responded to a shooting incident just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday outside Little Lucky’s Bar located on East Gateway Boulevard, close to Highway 204. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Shaw with gunshot injuries. Despite attempts to administer aid, he was declared deceased at the location.

Authorities have detained a 45-year-old man named Jeremy Scarth in connection with the incident. He faces murder charges and is currently being held. Investigators suspect that Scarth approached Shaw prior to discharging his weapon, although a clear motive has not been disclosed.

The startling announcement has left friends, colleagues, and regular customers of Little Lucky’s in shock, struggling to grasp how a celebration honoring veterans turned into such a horrific event.

“We were all just enjoying ourselves and laughing together,” mentioned Kim Eller, a close associate and frequent visitor to the bar. “It’s hard for me to wrap my head around how everything went so disastrously wrong.”

Shaw, affectionately called “Akon,” was recognized as a guardian, friend, and family member to many. Friends characterized him as someone always willing to help or offer uplifting words when individuals faced hardships.

“He would simply assist you,” Eller continued. “If you were feeling down, he would find a way to lift your spirits. That was his true nature — devoted, diligent, and compassionate.”

Another friend, Andrew Rawlings, expressed that he felt entirely “adrift” upon learning the tragic news. “He was perpetually smiling and always ready to help others. I still can’t wrap my mind around it being real.”

In a heartfelt tribute, Rachaels, a local establishment that frequently collaborated with Shaw, posted a poignant message online:

“The Rachaels family is heartbroken tonight as we bid farewell to an extraordinary individual — Akon, our companion, our brother, and our protector. We will pay tribute to Akon by donating proceeds from some of his favorite items to his family. Come by and raise a glass to Akon with a shot, a beer, or his beloved lemon pepper wings in his memory.”

The community has come together to remember Shaw, organizing gatherings at Little Lucky’s to share memories and pay tributes. Many believe that his generosity and character will persist in the lives he influenced.
