 The Conover community is grieving the tragic death of 38-year-old Joe Xiong, who sadly lost his life in a crash on Interstate 40 on Wednesday evening, November 12th.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that the incident happened around 8:07 p.m. close to mile marker 130 in Catawba County. Joe was driving west in his 1995 Honda Civic when the car veered off the road to the right and struck multiple trees. Emergency responders arrived quickly and took him to Catawba Valley Medical Center; however, despite their efforts, Joe did not survive his injuries. Investigators suspect that speed might have contributed to the accident, but inquiries are still in progress.

As news of Joe's passing circulated, the Conover community experienced a wave of mourning.
